This Thanksgiving was evidence of the truthfulness of the "loaves and fishes" principle. I invited an unprecedented amount of people (not wanting anyone to be alone or left out), and made Scott (and myself, if I'm being honest) very nervous about fitting everyone! My mom and my sister's family (of course!), the McElyeas (a permanent fixture), the missionaries (who wouldn't?!), the Boones (our besties from AZ, plus Kara's mom), and the Bowmans (looking for somewhere to fit in cuz they dont have local family). So we ended up with about 33 or 34 people, had to put up tables and chairs everywhere, but (back to the loaves and fishes concept)...everyone had a place to sit and there was more food than we could eat (leftovers for days)! All I know is, God gave me this giant house (and gave Scott his giant paychecks) so we could serve His children. It would be pretty backwards to spend a whole holiday pretending to be thankful and hogging it all for ourselves. I'm also a strong believer that when it comes down to deciding between leaving someone out or letting someone in, there's only one option. You just make room. He will always want us to make room - for Him and them. I really hope that if we keep sharing everything that we've got, He'll know how thankful we are for all we've been given.
