New Year's in New Mexico

Since we were going to have to be on the road for New Year's (traveling home from Arizona), we (the kids and I - Scott flew back for work earlier) decided to make it fun by going the long way and stopping in Alamogordo. Our old friends the Spencers were so kind to meet us at White Sands for some cold, uncomfortable sledding and then let us crash their New Year's Eve party at their house. I'm so glad/grateful we had a "home" to borrow and loved ones to be with on that big deal of a night. Saying goodbye to 2020, after all, was no side note or after thought. Everyone, including us, took hope and relished in the excitement of a clean slate and a new start. I pray that our society can recover from the anger and the ugly that Covid and the Presidential election (and just bad attitudes in general) caused this last year. I don't mind hard things, but in 2021, I hope we (all people) find reasons to come together rather than continually push apart.

AZ with the Wellmans

I loved every minute of time spend with my brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, husband and kids in Arizona. We had a bridal shower and wedding reception for Makenna. We hiked in the desert, hung out and played games. We swam a lot at Jeff's house (he heated his pool for us - best uncle). Scott and I got pedicures while we were waiting for Nolan and Colby to get haircuts (I LOVE that about Scott Gordon - he always says yes to things that make me happy). We went for a walk near our VRBO in Sun City. We visited Melanie and met her new husband Shane. Nothing we ever do is very exciting (because we're always too big of a group). But when we are in proximity, there is just happiness, just joy. Like we are back home from wherever we've been. Like we are together with the people we belong to, and there is underlying peace, and a surety of being loved. I know these are the feelings we will have when we are together in the eternities - and I look forward to it!
