My poor kids often miss out on the holiday traditions that I find too messy or too difficult. And what could be messier or harder than making jack-o-lanterns? I don't think we had ever carved one before Sofia talked us into it, but thank goodness she did. The kids were so thrilled with the whole process and especially mesmerized once night fell and we stuck a candle inside. Our pumpkin head brought us lots of joy before it turned into a rotten mess on my front porch. :)
