Serious Cold Snap

In case you though the weather had finally gotten boring in Kansas, think again! We had yet another new and interesting (and exciting) display of mother nature on the high plains. This year in early February, we had two weeks of sustained below freezing temps (as cold as -20 degrees at times). The lake by our house froze completely over - something we have never seen before. And school was canceled a couple of times and delayed many times, just because of the sheer cold. The town lost power at one point, but our house and our generator held strong and we never had to worry or suffer. The frozen landscape was absolutely beautiful. I was SO tempted to re-create the ice skating scene from Little Women, but I figured I better not encourage my kids to go out on the ice. Instead we threw lots of heavy rocks at it.
